Ansel Adams

As a child, Ansel Adams struggled in public schools possibly due to hyperactivity or dyslexia. His family tutored him until he was moved to a private school and graduated with an education equivalent to that of an eighth grader. Adams loved playing the piano and was planning on having a career as a concert pianist. However, he began taking pictures at Yosemite National Park and realized this was a far better source of income. In 1927, Adams' first fully visualized photograph was published. Soon after this Albert M. Bender, a patron of the arts, gave Ansel Adams the money to do his creative work. While this work was wonderful, Adams still struggled to pay the bills and was forced to do much commercial work. He would spend up to 18 hours a day working at times. While Ansel was never completely caught up, he enjoyed the busy lifestyle and career doing something he loved. The picture above of Adams' was taken at McDonald's lake in Glacier National Park. I chose this photo for several reasons. I love how the black and white still shows the incredible detail of the water. You can still even see the reflection of the mountain and the sky because of the large amount of contrast in this photo. The black water and cloudy sky gives this photo an almost eerie and depressing feeling whereas with color it might have been a happy, bright and sunny day.

 I chose this photo because I like the pink and purple tones the sunset makes. The reflection in the water is also very cool. I like the way the sun is reflected not as a blur but as a streak in the water. I also like the contrast between the dark tree line and white mountain.

I chose this photo for several reasons. First I like how the reflection in the water is so clear. The foggy look in the sky gives the picture a mysterious feeling. Also, the bright sun behind the bridge casts a cool light. The contrast between the dark front and bright back is really nice.

Hi there, my name is Carl and as you can tell, I am a traffic cone. Growing up wasn't easy; I was first used on a driver's ed course. My parents both got run over by some crazy teenager the second day I was put on the course but fortunately they were okay. My brother Phil was born two years after I was. I think he was secretly my parents' favorite. We still got along quite well though. Phil and I would always have a contest to guess who the best and worst drivers would be. I now work for a construction company which is only slightly less scary than my first job.It's scary when the big equipment like the crane or paving machine go by I'm also always afraid I will be left behind at a work site. My brother Phil works with me and we only see our parents if we're working on a site next to the driving school. I really like my job because I get to travel and see all different parts of Oregon. One time we went to eastern Oregon. Some cows got loose and almost ran Phil and I over! Not to mention the smell was awful. My favorite trip was the time I went to Portland outside of a nightclub. It was there Phil and I discovered we could really dance plus our reflective tape looks really good under all of the lights. When we're not working Phil and I like to sing along to the music the guys driving our truck play. Unfortunately it's almost always bad country. I really like dub step and rap.
